Conor Backs Up Nate, Says Diaz vs. Poirier Should Have Been UFC 230 Main Event

UFC superstar Nate Diaz is now set to throw down against Dustin Poirier for the co-main event of UFC 230 on Nov. 3. The fight, however, was seemingly close to headlining the card.

UFC 230 tickets went on sale with a main event having still not been announced. Consequently, the UFC quickly began considering Nate Diaz for the event’s headliner.

The Stockton native as being considered to possibly fight for the inaugural 165 pound title. However, the bout never came to fruition. Diaz has since been vocal about his interest in fighting for the inaugural belt to headline UFC 230.

Now speaking to UFC on FOX’s Karyn Bryant, former opponent and UFC megastar Conor McGregor has now come forward with his thoughts on the matter.

“I think the Diaz vs. Poirier fight should be main event, personally. It’s great for the women. Get them up there. It’s a great opportunity. But, I mean, still if it’s the belt that they are doing this for then why not add more divisions?”
