Khabib On UFC 229 Brawl: “Deep down inside, I feel it was a mistake”

Undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated UFC megastar Conor McGregor last weekend. On Oct. 6, the reigning champion defended his title be earning a fourth round submission victory over McGregor within the main event of UFC 229’s record breaking live pay-per-view.

Nurmagomedov then leaped out of the octagon and sparked a brawl between the two opposing fight camps. The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has since opened up an investigation concerning the incident and will hold a hearing on Oct. 24 to determine if Conor McGregor or Khabib Nurmagomedov should be suspended indefinitely following the fracas.

Speaking to Russian media in a recent interview, Khabib Nurmagomedov has since come forward to admit that he believes leaping out of the octagon and attacking Conor McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis was likely a mistake.

Check out a translation of the UFC champion’s statement down below.

“I feel that everyone has right to make mistakes, but I don’t have that right anymore.

“Deep down inside I feel it was a mistake. What ever happens, we shouldn’t behave like them (Conor’s team). But after all I wanted to let them know… I don’t know… I have conflicting feeling about this, but I am leaning towards that this was a mistake.”
