Report: UFC Planning To Remove Flyweight Division By 2019 | UFC News

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has officially traded former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson to ONE Championship. Now a new report claims that the promotion is looking to shut down the entire 125 pound division.

The UFC flyweight division has not had much luck with drawing a bevy of Conor McGregor level mixed martial arts superstars since the weight class’s inception. With that in mind, Combate has now reported that reigning flyweight champion Henry Cejudo is being targeted to fight bantamweight title holder T.J. Dillashaw for his title at 135 pounds.

Consequently, Combate claims that the UFC is now looking to shut down the UFC flyweight division by next year. Of course, the UFC has yet to officially announce any intention to do away with the division.
