Once there, it’s kill or be killed, and fighters who do not win get cut from the UFC roster.
Sometimes even legends and icons get cut from their contracts. Today, out of a field of five released UFC fighters, MMA legend Takanori Gomi was among the fighters let go.
Former PRIDE FC champion, Gomi represents the last of a generation.
The mixed martial arts legend wasn’t alone, as four other UFC fighters joined him on the unemployment line.
The UFC has released five fighters from its roster, including four Brazilians.
Hacran Dias, Henrique da Silva, Adriano Martins and Carlos Felipe are also now released from the promotion.
Gomi had lost his last five fights in the very first round. Dias went 3-5 with the UFC, most recently losing three straight. da Silva has lost four straight, including his last fight against Gokhan Saki. Martins has also suffered back-to-back losses.
And lastly, Felipe was released after failing a drug test with USADA. He never made his UFC debut.
