Congrats! UFC’s Tecia Torres Earns Her Masters Degree

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) strawweight competitor Tecia Torres is more than a mixed martial artists. Tecia Torres is an academic. The fighter and scholar recently took to Instagram to share the good news of earning her master’s degree in criminology.

“Ordering ??? I’ve always loved school. I was the student that sat up front and asked way too many questions. I cried when I had to miss school. My parents weren’t the best examples growing up but luckily I had my grandparents to help steer me in the right direction academically.

“Martial Arts was also something that allowed me to reach my greatest potential in the classroom. I remember my Karate Instructor (Fred Davis) not allowing me to join class until my homework was done. I’ve always had a strong work ethic and was determined to excel.

“I started college at age 16 with dual enrollment my junior year of HS. Then in my senior year I was fully enrolled in college through early admission. I graduated with my bachelors degree double majoring in Criminal Justice & Sociology at age 20 and was recognized by my University President as being the youngest graduate of my Summer 2010 graduating class.”

On Friday, I was again recognized in the University's President's speech for my accomplishments inside and outside the classroom with the @ufc I am beyond proud of my accomplishment. I share this with you not for applause but to share the love of higher education and the fact that you are capable of anything you put your mind to. Live to the fullest. Reach your god given potential. ❤️ you all
