UFC War Hero Tim Kennedy Reflects On Today’s Memorial Day, And Why It’s Hard For Him

Former UFC competitor, mixed martial artist and currently active military member Tim Kennedy has decided to share his thoughts on Memorial Day. Over Instagram, the Special Forces U.S. Army Ranger has posted a lengthy message to his fans concerning today’s service.

“To all of my veteran brothers and sisters out there, Memorial day can be rough. For me personally it’s one of the few days of the year that I emotionally struggle with the profession that I have chosen. The one where our best years are sacrificed abroad. The one that physically and mentally takes it’s daily toll. The occupation that separates us from the things dearest to our hearts. But all of those things pale in comparison to the biggest loss of all. The loss of that man or woman standing and fighting next to us. That voice whispering in the back of our head asking ‘had we done something different would they still be alive?’ If we were better prepared, faster, stronger, a better shot, would the closest person in my life not have had to die. Worse yet the question that haunts us every night ‘why couldn’t it have been me?’ But we have to remember this day doesn’t have anything to do with us. It has to do with celebrating their memory. It has to do with making sure that their sacrifice is remembered. I’m not telling you what to do, but I’ll tell you whatI’m not gonna do. I won’t be a whiny (expletive)! Get up and do the thing you love doing the most. If you don’t know what that is go to the park and just watch. See the smiles, feel the prayers, remember those folded flags, smell the barbecue, listen the laughter, and realize that it was all for a reason. And that reason was (expletive) worth it. #memorialdayweekend #memorialday,” Kennedy stated.
