Jose Aldo To Fight Out Of His UFC Contract, Wants To Pursue Boxing

Former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo doesn’t want to fight in the UFC for much longer.

According to Aldo’s head coach, Andre Pederneiras, Aldo has begun focusing on his boxing and wants to compete as a boxer after his UFC contract expires.

“He’s training boxing because he has this dream of competing in professional boxing,” Pederneiras told MMA Fighting. “If it was up to him, he’d fight all of his UFC fights (left on the contract) in three months and go box. He wants to box professionally.”

Pederneiras went on to say that Aldo wants to compete inside the Octagon soon. The former champion is interested in a fight against featherweight contender Cub Swanson and wants to earn another title opportunity.

“We’re waiting for the UFC,” Pederneiras said. “We’re trying to get this fight done against Cub Swanson or someone else. He wants to fight (against) someone well ranked, and wait for an opportunity to fight for the belt.”
