Mike Perry Doesn’t Buy Thiago Alves’s Hurricane Irma Excuse

“Platinum” Mike Perry does not believe former UFC title challenger Thiago Alves’ excuse for dropping out of their fight.

Alves and Perry were scheduled to fight Sept. 16 in the co-main event of a UFC Fight Night in Pittsburgh, Pensylvania. But three days before the fight, Alves withdrew from the fight due to being stranded in Florida because of Hurricane Irma.

Mike Perry recently appeared on the Extra Rounds Podcast and said he didn’t believe Alves’ reasoning for withdrawing from the fight.

“That’s bull(expletive),” Perry said. I came from Florida, we got more (expletive) up than he did. There are so many people here from South Florida. I was just talking to [Floridian] Michael Johnson. [Alves’] coaches from [American Top Team] down there, are here today. They flew up yesterday when he was supposed to. He is feeding y’all bull(expletive).”

Perry went on to say that Alves withdrew from the fight because he didn’t want to fight him and be forced to retire afterward.

“He don’t want to fight. He doesn’t want to retire yet and I was going to put him to sleep. It’s simple as that,” Perry said.

Even though Alves withdrew from the fight just three days before the event, the UFC managed to get Perry a replacement on short notice. Perry is now scheduled to fight UFC newcomer Alex Reyes.
