D.C. Explains Why He Didn’t Mention Rockhold When Thanking His Teammates After UFC 220 Win

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier put on a dominant performance over the weekend. After his successful title defense, the champion offered a shout out to some of his teammates at American Kickboxing Academy. However, Cormier failed to mention former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold.

Daniel Cormier defended his title from rising challenger Volkan Oezdemir in the co-main event of UFC 220 on Saturday, Jan. 20. Following the second round TKO victory, Cormier offered a few words in his post-fight interview. Having not mentioned longtime teammate and friend Luke Rockhold, some began to consider if a rift had formed between the two.

During the UFC 220 post-fight press conference, Cormier went on to explain the situation. Revealing that him and Rockhold are as close as ever, Cormier said that it was simply a matter of which teammates immediately came to his mind.

“The guys were here, that’s why I talked about them. I understand Luke is in the middle of a training camp right now, so he can’t be here. But, I saw Khabib and hugged him right as I left to go to the octagon. I saw Cain and hugged him right before entering the tunnel to go to the octagon. So, their names popped in my mind.”
