The UFC Updates Their Rankings, List McGregor As Champ, Ferguson As Interim

Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson.

Somewhere in Dublin, Ireland, there’s a happy UFC champion, while at the same time, somewhere in Southern California, there’s a pissed off Interim champion.

That’s because in the latest UFC release of their official rankings, that were updated Wednesday, Tony Ferguson is still listed as the UFC lightweight division interim champion, while Conor McGregor is still listed as the undisputed champion.

It’s another piece to the puzzle of what’s really going on in the upcoming UFC 223 main event between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

UFC presdident Dana White held a press conference last Friday to announce the lightweight battle. During which he confirmed the bout was for the undisputed belt.

Adding to the confusion, the UFC boss did not strip Conor McGregor, nor would he comment on the status of Conor’s championship title, despite confirming the UFC 223 main event was for the undisputed belt.

Journalists in attendance were not granted the privelage of questioning White on the decision, who would promptly brush them off when asked.

It was an odd state of affairs in this new UFC first.

Tony Ferguson came out on Monday, to reveal his frustration with the UFC boss, stating, “Yea it bothers me. It bothers the shit out of me. Straight up. Wouldn’t you? I’m the fucking champ and we don’t know if we’re fighting for the real belt or not.”

“What the fuck is that. Dana White is telling us one thing on one part of the curtain, and on the other side he’s saying, ‘No, Conor McGregor is the champion.’

“I love Dana, but what the fuck dude? Am in not the champ or am I the champ. Do you want to hype me up or do you not want to hype me up for this fight.”

Well, we’re still no further to the truth, despite the rankings update.
