Invicta Female Responds To Insulting Body Odor Complaint From Opponent

Invicta FC 30 went down Saturday, July 21. Headlining the event, Minna Grusander and Jinh Yu Frey battled it out for the vacant atomwweight title.

Frey ultimately earned a unanimous decision over her opponent for the title. With that in mind, it would appear that the battle is not entirely over.

Douglas Frey, husband and coach to Jinh Yu Frey, recently took to Twitter to comment on Minna Grusander. The coach said Grusander “was the most disgusting smelling person I’ve ever been around.” The tweet has since been deleted.

However, Douglas Frey later took to to Twitter with another statement referring to his previous statement as the “stinky strategy.”

“They’re a strategic team and implored the ‘stinky strategy’ knowing very well that their gameplan was to push Jinh into a clinch battle against the cage, w/ a plan to suffocate her with the smell.

“Like I said, it’s a very old wrestling tactic and thier team used it with purpose”

Jinh Yu Frey also took to Instagram to comment on the matter.

“Well after an eventful week, it feels great to be home (even if it’s 109 degrees outside). It was a tough and gritty fight. Not my best performance and it took me awhile to start listening to my corner and get going. As always, there were things done well and things that will need more work, but that is the nature of this sport. And I doubt I will ever be fully satisfied with any performance I have without some critiquing of myself, that’s just who I am.

“Regardless of the opinions of those in disagreement of the decision and even the Invicta commentary team, I felt I made the appropriate adjustments and inflicted the most damage. It took a while to figure out how to work through the “wall and stall” tactics that the Invicta commentary team valued so highly.
I also had never had an opponent who did the whole “I’m not showering for a week so that my body odor makes my opponent gag” tactic. So that was new.

“Anyway, each fight is a test for not only my skill, but resolve, tenacity, and perseverance. Ultimately it’s my journey to make sense of, not anyone else’s.

“I do want to thank my team at @genesisjiujitsu @genesis.mma and my coaches @douglas.frey and Tony Cabello from Reyes Boxing. I may get in there alone, but it is a team effort to get me to the cage. I’d like to thank @invictafc @shanknapp @kaitlinyoungify for the opportunity and platform to express myself.

“Also big thanks to @Onnit @victorybeefllc @cruzcombat for always being in my corner. Also thanks to the new kids on the block @hillcountrycbd @clubcryo for the help in recovery this camp.

“And last but definitely not least, the fans who care enough to watch, follow, comment, and write to me. Even the haters and trolls who give me a good laugh. #thechampishere #teamg #teamgenesis”

Speaking to MMA Fighting, Minna Grusander has now come forward with a defense to the allegations.

“I think the fact that they are even making up and shouting out this little bulls**t, it’s pretty disgraceful right now. I’ve heard and seen some bad losers in sports in general and I kind of understand the trash talk in combat sports prior to an upcoming bout, but I can’t really figure out the purpose of their actions right now.

“I don’t think I’ve seen everything, I’m not really digging deep into what they’re talking about me, I’m just amazed how immature they’ve been with it.”

UFC and Invicta FC correspondent Laura Sanko later took to Twitter to defend Minna Grusander concerning the allegations.

“Man, this disappoints me. You know I like you Doug and I’ve always admired Jinh but you’re better than this. I stood right next to Minna after the fight and didn’t notice odor like that. Bringing something like this up just takes away from the gritty performance of both ladies.”

Douglas Frey retaliated with another message, claiming that he took Icelandic languages and allegedly overheard Grusander’s team laughing over the matter.

“Don’t be disappointed, Laura. I took Icelandic language lessons, and can follow along in Finnish pretty well too. On the ride back to the hotel we had to ride in the same can and her and her team were laughing about it talking trash about, likely thinking we had no idea what they”

Speaking to MMA Fighting, Grusander offered a retaliation of her own.

“With all this Icelandic stuff and ‘bad-smelling thing,’ it really sounds like some first-grader wannabe badass bully desperately trying to put down someone even when they can’t come up with anything.”

“I don’t think we need to figure anything out outside the cage,” said Grusander. “We can get inside the cage and figure it out there.”

“After all this that’s happened here, I really feel like there’s just no respect left towards them and they won the fight, and I feel like they are lucky winners in the fight and they are still bringing stuff up and whining and making up all this bulls**t. So I’m pretty anxiously waiting what will they come up with when I’m working her ass next time.”
