With Montano vs. Shevchenko Out, UFC Gives UFC 228 A New Co-Main Event

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lost its highly anticipated co-main event for the promotion’s upcoming card on just one day’s notice. That being said, the UFC has already locked down a new co-headliner for the card.

UFC 228 is set to take place this Saturday, Sept. 8, from within the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The live pay-per-view event was initially set to see UFC women’s flyweight champion Nicco Montano defend her title from Valentina Shevchenko in the night’s co-main event.

However, Nicco Montano was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital on Friday, Sept. 7, after suffering kindey issues. The title fight has since been cancelled.

The UFC has since revealed that UFC women’s strawweights Jessica Andrade and Karolina Kowalkiewicz have been moved up to the night’s co-main event and one of the night’s preliminary match ups has been moved to the main card. Check out the full card update down below.
