Derek Brunson Outworks Ian Heinisch In UFC 241 Main Card Opener | UFC Results

After being defeated in two major fights against Ronaldo Souza and Israel Adesanya, Derek Brunson (19-7-0) came back strong against Elias Theodorou. With another dominant performance, this Saturday, a former NCAA wrestler will get back among the elite fighters in the Middleweight division. However, Ian Heinisch proved to be a promising Middleweight after securing unanimous decisions over Cezar Ferreira and Antonio Carlos Jr. Heinisch is feeling confident coming into this fight. If he stretches his five fights winning streak against Brunson, he will certainly explode through the rankings and face only top competition in the future.

Rd 1 – Henisch immediately starts exploding with the punches. He fires a head kick and drops Brunson! Brunson recovers and grabs a body lock! What a start! They are in the clinch against the cage. Brunson separates. Henisch continues to punish the lead leg of Brunson. He is searching for another head kick. Brunson stays patient. Now Brunson explodes and lands a nice left straight. Both fighters are looking for the knockout blow. A nice step in right hand lands for Heinisch! He is winning the exchanges but Brunson is looking sharp on the counters. Brunson shoots for the single leg but Heinisch defends. Nice knees and punches over the top are landing for Heinisch. He is very aggressive. Brunson partially lands a head kick! However, Heinisch returns fire with a couple of straight punches. A nice right counter lands for Brunson! He dives for a double leg but fails to secure the takedown.

Rd 2 – Both fighters exchange a couple of leg kicks. Heinisch continues to be the aggressor. Neither fighter is willing to pull the trigger in the first minute. Brunson fires a big left hand and lands! Heinisch shoots for a takedown, defended by Brunson. Heinisch is holding his hands low. Brunson starts opening up with the kicks. Heinisch moves in but eats a hard left hand! Another one lands for Brunson! Heinisch is clearly slowing down! He is still firing but with no power. Brunson is constantly looking for the left head kick. Another left lands for Brunson! He is all over Heinisch who shoots for another takedown! Brunson defends and clinches against the fence. He is a fresher fighter. Brunson misses with the head kick and Heinisch capitalizes with a nice left hand. Brunson is slowly picking Heinisch apart. Heinisch eats another hard left hook!

Rd 3 – Heinisch comes out aggressive but Brunson keeps his composure. Nice left hand lands for Heinich but Brunson grabs a body lock and gets the takedown. Heinisch scrambles and they are back on their feet. They are back in the clinch as Brunson separates. Heinisch is pressing forward but he eats a couple of hard left hands! Both fighters are breathing heavily! Brunson initiates the clinch and trips Heinisch to the mat. Heinisch scrambles his way up. Brunson is working behind his jab and he cracks Heinisch with the big right! He is fighting a smart fight. Heinisch is not offering anything back. That said, he connects with a nice right! Both fighters are dropping their hands. However, Brunson has a much bigger output. Heinisch is pressing forward with his chin up in the air.
