Back in June 2015, UFC Fight Night 105 headliner Travis Browne was accused of domestic violence by his ex-wife Jenna Webb. Browne was suspended indefinitely by the UFC pending an investigation. In August of the same year, Browne was cleared of all charges and things seemed to well and good.
He got divorced from Webb and is currently dating former women’s bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey. That doesn’t mean though soon-to-be opponents can’t use “Hapa’s” past to sell a fight.
Browne’s UFC Fight Night 105 opponent Derrick Lewis believes Browne committed the offense and uses it as motivation heading into this weekend.
“I believe it,” Lewis told MMA Junkie. “I believe he did put his hands on [her]. But he’s looking for some motivation. I can look at that as a type of motivation as well. At the end of the day I’m not fighting to be Superman or anything like that, going like Captain Save-A-You-Know-What. I’m just really doing it for the money. I’m not really going out there trying to save these women.”
Tired of hearing about the matter and wanting to move on from the situation, Browne plans on making Lewis pay for the words he spoke.
“The one thing I did hear him talk about was very ignorant of him to even mention,” Browne said (via MMA Junkie). “It is what it is. The great thing about this sport is you’re going to be held accountable for your words come fight night. I plan on doing so.”
