Despite the highly anticipated Bellator debut of Fedor Emelianenko being canceled due to his opponent, Matt Mitrione, becoming ill just hours before the fight was scheduled to happen, Bellator still produced a fight night filled with intriguing matchups.
Bellator 172 took place Saturday at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. The main card opened with the Bellator debut of former UFC title challenger Josh Koscheck as he fought Mauricio Alonso.
Koscheck went straight for his opponent at the start of the fight, but Alonso was able to keep him at bay with kicks. Neither fighter was afraid to throw blows at the other. Koscheck controlled the cage and kept Alonso close to the cage. However, this did not stop Alonso from creating his own offense. Eventually, Alonso landed a hard blow which put Koscheck on defense. Alonso then landed a few more punches before finishing the fight by TKO.
Official result:
Mauricio Alonso def. Josh Koscheck by TKO (4:42 Rd 1)
