ONE Women’s Atomweight Champion Angela Lee wants to avoid making the mistakes former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey made in her career.
In a recent interview, Lee revealed she learned a lot from Rousey’s last fight in the UFC.
In December, at UFC 207, Rousey returned to the UFC after a 13-month absence to fight UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes. After just 48 seconds into the first round, Nunes defeated Rousey by TKO.
“As brutal as it is, that’s the fight game,” Lee said. ‘And that’s how things go down. The sport is full of ups and downs, highs and lows. For me, it’s just incredibly important to just surround yourself with people that are going to be honest with you. And you have to be honest with yourself.
“The most important thing is to just keep learning and keep improving. That’s the whole thing about martial arts – to just keep improving yourself as a person.”
Lee is undefeated with six wins. In her last fight, she won the inaugural ONE women’s atomweight title after winning a decision against Mei Yamaguchi. Lee’s previous five wins all came by submission in the ONE promotion.
Lee will headline ONE Championship: Warrior Kingdom on March 11 in Bangkok, Thailand. She will defend her title for the first time against fellow undefeated fighter Jenny Huang, whose last three wins have all come by submission.
