Viacom Ditching SPIKE, Plans Rebranding And New Direction

Spike TV will soon no longer exist.

The television network, who once broadcasted UFC programming and now is the home for Bellator MMA, will soon be rebranded as the Paramount Network.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the rebranding of the network could begin as early as 2018.

No other details about the rebranding of the network were given at this time. There is no word on whether or not Bellator will remain on this network, or if the second biggest promotion in MMA will have a new home.

Spike TV is owned by Viacom, who also owns Bellator. So, if Bellator were not to air on the newly branded Paramount Network, it would still likely air on another Viacom channel. Other television networks owned by Viacom include MTV, VH1, BET, Comedy Central, TV Land, and Nickelodeon.

Spike TV began airing MMA programming with the first season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2005. Spike was the home of UFC programming through 2011. After the UFC moved to various FOX networks, Spike began airing Bellator events.
