ONE featherweight Herbert Burns is excited to finally return to the cage.
Burns has not fought since Sept. 2015. On Friday, Feb. 10, Burns will fight Movlid Khaibulaev at “ONE Championship: Throne of Tigers.”
“It’s great to be back in action,” Burns told MMAfighting. “I was really excited when I got the news for the fight. It was like training, training, for over a year and nothing happened. I’m really excited to go there and put on a good show.”
Burns went on to say he doesn’t know why he hasn’t fought in well over a year. He says ONE has not offered him a fight. Burns also said he had problems financially due to not fighting. After his long layoff, Burns says fans should expect to see a new fighter come Friday.
“They can expect a much greater Herbert Burns,” Burns said. “I’m going to be the same style. Aggressive and technical, and trying to look for the finish every single way now.”
Burns is undefeated with six wins. His last five fights have all taken place in ONE. Overall, five of Burns wins have come by submission.
His opponent, Khaibulaev will be making his ONE debut. He is undefeated with 11 wins. Five of his wins have come by knockout or TKO.
ONE Championship: Throne of Tigers will take place in Malaysia on Friday. The event will stream live on the ONE website beginning at 6 a.m. EST.
