Werdum: ‘JDS is the Brazilian Conor McGregor’

Conor McGregor has turned into a larger than life figure head for success, for some. With a 21-3 record and two UFC championship belts on his resume, it’s easy to imagine why. Well, officially, the UFC lightweight champion has been coined into a definer term among fighters.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum was recently interviewed by Portal do Vale Tudo, in which the heavyweight mentioned who he is interested in fighting after UFC 211.

While Werdum will first have to go through Ben Rothwell at UFC 211, the fighter still has his eyes on other prizes.

In the interview, Werdum noted who he would rather fight next, Junior Dos Santos or Stipe Miocic.

“I have no preferences. I lost to both guys and I’d like to pay them back. Be it Miocic or Dos Santos, my goal is the belt, no matter who has it. If it’s Cigano, though, it’ll be good to stop him from being the Brazilian Conor McGregor. The way he’s been talking lately is not cool, it doesn’t match him. I don’t know him, but this whole Brazilian McGregor thing doesn’t suit him. It’s actually ridiculous, to be honest.”

While it’s hard to imagine a Conor McGregor of X, Y or Z, Werdum has made his point. Perhaps it was not in the most flattering of light, but it’s still worth something.

Fabricio Werdum will face Ben Rothwell at UFC 211 in Dallas, Texas on May 13, 2017.
