White Says Mayweather-McGregor “Nowhere Close” To Being A Reality

It would appear that Floyd Mayweather is going to have to stick to his retirement for a little longer, as UFC president Dana White has recently made another move towards keeping McGregor in the octagon for the foreseeable future.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is looking to schedule a tantalizing cross-promotional bout with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. The UFC champion is currently taking some time off from the UFC while he tries to get things in order.

While the potential bout has seen its fair share of roadblocks as it stands, it would seem that a new problem has appeared on the horizon.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Dana White stoically denied any opportunity of the bout being in McGregor’s future.

“I don’t know where we’re at. We’re nowhere. We’re nowhere with it.” White explained, when asked where the cross-promotional bout currently stands.

The UFC president seems certain that McGregor will never train with acclaimed boxing coach Freddie Roach, as Mayweather may have hoped.

“Conor wouldn’t train with anybody. Conor’s got his own team and his own crew. I expect Conor’s next fight to be in the UFC, in mixed martial arts and the winner of Khabib and Ferguson.”

As White seems to certain that the bout is not in McGregor’s immediate future, the UFC president went on to explain why McGregor may be chasing the fight.

“Well, you know, the things going to be millions of dollars. The guy could make anywhere from $30-60 million.”

Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov are set to fight for the lightweight interim title in the co-main event of UFC 209 this Saturday. Dana White appears adamant that “Notorious” should face the victor of the weekend and solidify the interim title.
