Following Criticism, Woodley Tells Dana White He Should Try Fighting Wonderboy For Himself

UFC 209 was a schism in its own rite. Fans who came to see the co-main event left disappointed, as the co-main event never happened. Many fans who came to see the title fight rematch main event echoed the bout with heckling boos. While the fight card was certainly nothing to scoff at, fans simply seem underwhelmed by the promotion’s weekend performance.

Following UFC President Dana White’s harsh critique of UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley’s performance against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, Woodley has shot back a few words for the president.

In the UFC 209 Post-Fight Press Conference, Woodley said

“I want to see Dana get in there and fight ‘Wonderboy.’ Watch everyone else that walked in there. Watch Patrick Cote, Robert Whittaker, watch all these guys that thought they were just going to bulldoze him, and they disrespected his style. I did the opposite. I embraced his style.

“You can’t disrespect that style. What happens is you think you got it figured out and kicks and punches come from weird angles, and you find yourself with out this [belt], and you find yourself knocked out. And, I know you guys love to see the knockouts. You love to see gore. You love to see blood, guys getting beat up then finding a way to come back. I love watching it as well, but guess what, I love being world champion, and sometimes it’s not the sexiest fight.”

Woodley defeated Stephen Thompson via majority decision at UFC 209 over the weekend, cementing Woodley’s place as the champion.
