UFC lightweight contender Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov’s recent weight management issue has caused a stir of discourse within the sport. The contender was unable to make it to weigh-ins for UFC 209, after being rushed to the hospital for sharp pains in his liver. After missing weigh-ins, Tony Ferguson was left without an opponent and UFC 209 was left without a co-main event.
Now, professionals are giving their two cents on the current state of weight cutting in the sport. Among them, Joe Rogan has something to say.
In a recent episode of Joe Rogan Experience, UFC commentating veteran Joe Rogan gave his opinion on what needs to be done about weight cutting in the UFC. Particularly, Rogan is focused on Nurmagomedov’s recent incident.
When discussing Nurmagomedov’s missed weight, Rogan said “I feel like you need to make a person who does not make the weight, get a loss.”
Pausing a moment to double down on his point, Rogan said “There is only one way to stop it. You’ve got to punish people. You’ve got to make it a loss, because the fighter didn’t make weight.”
