After 24 kidney stones, “Meathead” may have partied a tad too hard in his college days.
Bellator 172 was set to be the promotional debut for MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko. Unfortunately, opponent Matt “Meathead” Mitrione was stricken with kidney stones moments before the fight.
After being hospitalized for the condition, Mitrione had the stones removed.
Ariel Helwani recently reported to Twitter,
“Mitrione said a doctor pulled out 24 kidney stones 4 days after he was supposed to fight. They think due to ‘serial hydration.’ But Mitrione says he doesn’t cut weight so he thinks the dehydration is from his partying days at Purdue.”
Mitrione played college football at Purdue University, before making it into the NFL.
Kidney stones removed, Matt Mitrione vs. Fedor Emelianenko is back on. The two warriors are set to fight at Bellator 180 on June 24 inside Madison Square Garden.
