With both fighters coming off of related suspensions of their own, the NYSAC has made it unclear whether Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva will face out-of-competition drug testing for their incipient match-up.
As reported by MMA Fighting, the NYSAC declined to comment on Silva and Sonnen’s match, when asked about the out-of-competition policy by MMA Fighting.
“The Commission’s normal practice is to conduct testing on any athlete who has a history of doping violations every time they compete in the State of New York,” New York Department of State spokesperson Laz Benitez told MMA Fighting.
The NYSAC rules dictate that combat sports licensees must be submitted to “drug and/or steroid screening in a manner directed by the NYSAC.” The specificity of out-of-competition drug testing is not of mention.
Sonnen and Silva are set to face off at Bellator 180 on June 24.
