“The Eagle” has faced a litany of scrutiny over the past days, as he missed weigh-ins for UFC 209. Missing weigh-ins is, of course, no small thing. Tony Ferguson was left without an opponent and UFC 209 was left without a co-main event.
That being said, Khabib Nurmagomedov was suffering from weight-management issues. He was rushed to the hospital, forcing him to miss the weigh-ins.
Still, some people believe that Nurmagomedov could have handled things differently. Most recently, former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub has taken a disliking to the way Nurmagomedov’s team handled his medical problems. He thinks they should have gone to a different hospital.
Schaub said
“They went to the hospital without notifying Dr. Davidson and the UFC. Dr. Davidson in the UFC and Dana White, if you go through them first, they are going to make sure you get first class support and do whatever they can to save that fight for you, in the safest way. They are not going to do anything illegal, but they are going to make sure you are at the front of the line. They just went into some random hospital.
“Well, they don’t care if you make the fight. They pump you full of fluids, you’re not making the fight. They are not going to clear you.”
