Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort suffered his third consecutive loss at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 106. Abruptly beaten in the first round by TKO to Kelvin Gastelum, Belfort explained the disappointment of the bout in the event’s post-fight press conference.
Starting the conference with a less than jovial, “Everything went wrong.” Belfort explained that he never fully recovered from being rocked at the beginning of the fight. He could not perform as he would have liked after being dropped.
“It’s frustrating, because I was doing well until a certain point. I was confident that I was going to knock him out and everything happened in reverse.” Belfort said.
When talking about how he is handling this most recent loss, the former champion added
“Pain is pain. I am very upset, because we put a lot into this training.”
Belfort has since announced that he will retire after the final fight in his contract, though he said that he decided to retire prior to his bout with Gastelum.
