UFC Middleweight Champion Michael “The Count” Bisping has goaded “The Soldier of God” once again. Following Yoel Romero’s recent call for an interim title fight against Anderson Silva, Bisping has blasted the No. 1 contender for his request.
Bisping is currently set to face now returning fighter Georges St-Pierre for the middleweight title. Seeing that St-Pierre has never competed in the middleweight division before, No. 1 ranked middleweight Yoel Romero has grown rather impatient with the circumstance. The contender wants a title shot.
In the latest episode of Bisping’s new podcast Believe You Me, Bisping gave his two cents on the supposed interim title fight.
As transcribed by Bloody Elbow, Bisping said
“You’ve got Yoel Romero calling for an interim title shot, which is just desperate. It’s laughable. It’s desperate.
“Interim titles are for if the champion is hurt or injured or taking time out. None of that’s happening. GSP’s fighting for the belt. So shut up, fight someone else in the meantime or sit on the side. One or the other.”
Bisping and St-Pierre’s title fight does not yet have an official date or venue, though it is rumored that the bout with find its way onto the Garbrandt vs. Dillashaw bantamweight title fight card this summer.
