Following UFC 210 Weigh-in Controversy, D.C. Puts “Towelgate” to Rest

While UFC 210 went down with a little controversy, it all started with the weigh-ins. Now, Daniel Cormier is looking to put “towelgate” to rest.

Cormier came in overweight for the UFC 210 weigh-ins. The fighter needed to lose 1.2 pounds. Minutes later, Cormier returned to the scale at exactly 205 pounds. Forced to strip bare to make the weight, Cormier held onto a towel during the weigh-in.

Cormier’s sudden drop in weight and use of the towel has stirred up some controversy among fans and fighters alike.

At last night’s post-fight press conference, Cormier put the incident to rest.

When asked to put the situation to rest, Cormier said

“I made the weight. That’s how you put it to rest. (I) made the weight. I fought tonight and defended my championship. I knew that the scale wasn’t weighing what I weighed upstairs and I had been checking my weight all week. If I was holding the towel, I was trying to hide myself. Because when I got off the first time, my (expletive) was showing. It’s on Ariel’s website. I saw it.”
