“The Eagle” seems to believe that MMA is simply not meant to be on the same level as football.
In a recent interview with ChampionAt, UFC lightweight top contender Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov gave his opinion of where the sport is going.
“Will MMA become more popular than football? To supersede football not only in Russia, but also in the world it is impossible. This is the most interesting sport. We can approach the ratings in close quarters, but on interest and on heat it is impossible. Well, how can you get ahead of the match, Real – Barcelona or Manchester United – Liverpool! I think this is impossible in this life. For me, football remains in the first place.
In Russia, I always support Anji, this is my native club from Dagestan. I always support him, watch how they played, at what stage they are now – they fly out, they do not fly out. Of course, I want them to fight for prizes, for Europe, but so far we have to follow what zone they are in. I’m still rooting for Real Madrid, I watch Spanish football. But I like English football more.”
