UFC 210’s co-main event has drawn in a slew of controversy over the weekend.
Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman was looking to pull himself out of a two fight losing streak in a bout against Gegard Mousasi in the night’s co-main event. Unfortunately for Weidman, the fight faced a controversial stoppage.
The referee called a stop to the fight after Weidman received a series of knees to the head. The referee initially believed Mousasi’s strikes to be illegal, offering Weidman a five minute respite before continuing the match.
However, the strikes were later determined as legal and Weidman as unable to continue. The stoppage quickly turned into a TKO loss for the former champion.
The fight’s ending has since drawn in controversy, as Weidman is interesting in appealing the loss. However, recent footage has revealed that Weidman may have been more damaged by the knees than initially believed.
