Russia’s Wrestling Champ Involved In Brawl With Politician And Coach, Hospitalized

A freestyle wrestling champion has been hospitalized after attempting to quell a struggle between the champion’s wrestling coach and a parliamentarian. The incident took place in Russia, though the reasoning behind it is still being investigated.

As reported by Bloody Elbow, freestyle wrestling champion Aleksandr Bogomoev from the 2015 European Games in Baku attempted to separate quarreling individuals Bair Ilyin and Anton Asalhanov.

The wrestling coach and parliamentarian from the State Duma were in Ust-Ordynsky, Russia during the fight. It has been reported that Ilyin was armed with an axe, while Asalhanov was armed with a knife. The fight occurred on April 23.

Wrestling coach Bair Ilyin suffered serious stab wounds. Aleksandr Bogomoev suffered a ruptured spleen, due to being struck with a large pipe. However, Anton Asalhanov was wounded with bruises and a concussion.
