Last night, UFC 210 went down. The event, nor its weigh-ins, took place without their controversy.
UFC strawweight Pearl Gonzalez was seemingly almost pulled from her fight with Cynthia Calvillo after it was revealed that the fighter has breast implants.
Following the incident, light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier caused a little controversy during the weigh-ins. The champion showed up overweight, with 1.2 pounds to lose. Minutes later, Cormier stepped back on the scales at exactly 205 pounds. The fighter’s use of a towel during the weigh-in, as well as his speedy weight loss, has caused a bit of a stir among fans and fighters.
The controversy then spilled into last night’s co-main event, as former middleweight champion Chris Weidman faced a bitter loss to Gegard Mousasi. The fight was called off by the referee after Mousasi threw potentially illegal knees to the head of Weidman. It was later revealed that the knees were legal. The stoppage ended in a loss for Weidman and more controversy for fighters and fans.
Following the controversy laden event, UFC President Dana White offered his reactions in an interview with UFC’s own Megan Olivi.
“That’s this sport. There are always going to be things to deal with. It’s a testament to the team that we have here and how we are able to pull things off, even when facing adversity like we did this week.”
