UFC Fighter Gets Increased Fine For Second Straight Missed Weight

UFC Fight Night 108 goes down tomorrow night, April 22, inside the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. In the main event, featherweight contender Cub Swanson will be facing off against Artem Lobov.

Weigh-ins for tomorrow’s event went down today, with one fighter missing weight. Light heavyweight Marcos Rogerio de Lima is set to face Ovince Saint Preux in the Ultimate Fighting Championship event, but the fighter has missed weight.

Marcos Rogerio de Lima came in a at 210 pounds, leaving the fighter overweight for the division. With de Lima having also missed weight at UFC on FOX 23, the fighter faced a larger pay penalty than most.

As reported by MMA Fighting, de Lima will be facing a 30 percent fine to his fight purse. The common penalty for missed weight is a fine of 20 percent. While the fight for tomorrow night is still on, the fighter is facing a larger penalty. UFC officials told MMA Fighting:

“Athletes that miss weight are subject to a penalty of their purse at the discretion of the promotion and the state athletic commission. As this was Lima’s second consecutive weight management issue, the penalty was increased to 30 percent, which was agreed to by all parties involved. Each penalty is reviewed and handled on a case-by-case basis.”
