Belfort Takes Back Retirement, Says He’ll Fight On, Just Not In The UFC

Vitor Belfort will fight for the last time in the UFC on June 3 at UFC 212 in his home country of Brazil.

However, even though it will be his last UFC fight, Belfort says he may continue to compete.

Belfort discussed his future in the sport of MMA with Brazilian publication Veja Rio.

“(I will) leave the UFC, but I’ll continue competing,” Belfort said. “Fight is my passion. Too bad that MMA hasn’t become a serious sport yet. Maybe I’ll help change this scenario.”

Belfort doesn’t seem happy with the current state of the UFC, which makes it seem more likely he will fight elsewhere in the future.

“Today, a fighter is more artist than athlete,” Belfort said. “The UFC is a show, not a sport. It’s sad to see new fighters wanting to drive the card of the moment or be in the spotlight like Conor McGregor. Their reference is to have, not to be.”

Belfort will fight Nate Marquardt in his final UFC bout in Rio de Janeiro.
