On Friday, Bellator returned to London, England with a night full of intriguing MMA matchups.
In the main event of Bellator 179, former UFC title challenger Rory MacDonald makes his Bellator debut when he fights Paul Daley.
In the co-main event, former Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion Liam McGeary fought top contender Linton Vassell.
McGeary was the aggressor at the start of the fight. McGeary used his long legs to throw various kicks. Vassell began to throw lethal punching combinations. McGeary later fell while throwing a kick. Vassell jumped on top of McGeary, who was able to get Vassell into his guard. McGeary was active off of his back, but Vassell was able to maintain top position. The rest of the first round was fought on the ground with McGeary being more active, but Vassell held the top position.
The second round started with McGeary throwing quick combinations. He mixed his punches and leg kicks to produce damage. Vassell then landed a strong takedown. McGeary got the fight into his guard once again. Vassell used a submission attempt to get into full mount. Vassell then moved into side control and into McGeary’s half guard. Vassell once again moved into full mount. McGeary briefly escaped but Vassell quickly regained full mount. At the end of the round, Vassell attempted a submission but could not succeed.
Vassell quickly got McGeary to the ground to start the final round. Vassell got an arm triangle on McGeary and finished the fight by submission.
