ONE welterweight champion Ben “Funky” Askren is currently gearing up for his next title defense. This time, the ONE welterweight champion will be heading to Singapore.
Askren is set to defend his title from Agilan Thani at ONE: Dynasty of Heroes on May 26 inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore. While the champion is preparing for his incipient title fight, Ben Askren has other hobbies to fill his time.
In a recent interview with ONE Championship, Ben Askren explained his passion for disc golf. “Luckily, disc golf does not take a lot of energy. It is a very, very casual sport, and when I was working hard at wrestling in college, that was kind of my relaxation time.
“I could not just sit on the couch and play video games — I always hated doing that. So for me, my relaxation was disc golf. I have a belief that success is a skill. Most people think, ‘Ok, I need to learn wrestling, that is a skill. I need to learn boxing, that is a skill.’ But in my opinion, you can take the same characteristics and values that made you successful in one thing, and be successful in another thing, as long as you apply them correctly.
“The same lessons I used to be good at wrestling, I use to be good at disc golf, I use to be good at mixed martial arts, and now I am ideally using them to go be good at business. So I think a lot of the lessons you learn in one thing about being successful can really cross-apply to other things.” Askren said.
