After a KO victory in London, UFC’s Jimi Manuwa decided to make an unexpected call out. The fighter made a shout out to boxer David Haye.
Following the call out, David Haye showed great interest in facing the UFC knockout artist, even stating that he was in talks with UFC management.
Now, it would appear that things have become a little more solid. In a recent interview with BJ Penn Radio, as transcribed by Bloody Elbow, Jimi Manuwa revealed that he has spoken to UFC President Dana White. Manuwa admitted that White seems interested in the matchup.
“I spoke to David Haye today. I spoke to him last week when I was in Vegas with Dana, and Dana liked the numbers – what can be generated through this event. We’re planning on making it happen. David Haye is out and about walking, he’s back walking now after his injury. We’re doing everything we can to make it happen.”
Manuwa explained, before answering to if the fight could take place on the same card as Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“Possibly, but we’re big enough to do our own card as well in London. It depends when the Conor – Floyd fight happens. If it’s in September I think that would be too early for David Haye. I think he’ll be ready November or December. So a September card would be too early for him. We’ll see what happens. We’ve got options.”
