UFC 211 went down tonight. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) put on an exciting event that featured title defenses, a controversial no contest and exhilarating upsets. Among them, Demian Maia earned himself a title shot.
UFC welterweight Demian Maia faced off against Jorge Masvidal in the Dallas, Texas mixed martial arts event. The fight ultimately went the distance, but did not end in Masvidal’s favor. Demian Maia earned a split decision victory over his opponent.
Shortly after the victory, it was revealed that Maia had earned a title shot through his performance. The fact was later addressed by UFC President Dana White in the UFC 211 Post-Fight Press Conference. Dana White also addressed another UFC competitor and his hope for another title shot.
Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold has recently showed some distaste in the reigning champion facing a non-contender of the division. Middleweight champion Michael Bisping was initially set to face off against Georges St-Pierre, who has never competed as a middleweight.
In the UFC 211 Post-Fight Press Conference, Dana White explained that he was a little disgruntled with Rockhold. “You’ve got Rockhold screaming ‘I deserve this.’ You just got knocked out in the first round. You don’t deserve anything. You’ve got to come back and earn it.” White said, when detailing what it takes to earn a title shot.
