UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier belittled title contender Jimi Manuwa on Twitter.
On Sunday, Manuwa tweeted to Cormier calling him “double cheeseburger” and saying he would knock him out the moment he saw him.
Cormier did not take kindly to Manawa’s words, and the champion responded with insults of his own.
“Bet you won’t,” Cormier said to Manuwa. “When you see me you’ll be trying to shake hands. U know ur a fan Jimi. Shut up. I got a title to defend!”
The UFC light heavyweight division is a major topic in the sport following Sunday’s UFC Fight Night event. In the main event, Alexander Gustafsson knocked out Glover Teixeira. Also in the co-main event, Volkan Ozdemir knocked out Misha Cirkunov.
Along with Gustafsson and Ozdemir, Manuwa is a top contender in the 205-pound division. He is on a two-fight win streak. He is coming off knockout wins over Ovince Saint Preux and Corey Anderson.
Cormier is scheduled to defend his title against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones at UFC 214 on July 29 in Anaheim, California.
