A rematch between former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier may not happen anytime soon.
Last Saturday, at UFC 211, Alvarez fought Poirier in an exciting back-and-forth battle that had an unfortunate ending.
In the second round, Alvarez hit Poirier with multiple illegal knees while Poirier was on the ground. Poirier was unable to recover after the illegal shots landed.
Since the referee did not believe Alvarez knew he was doing something illegal, the fight was ruled a no contest.
Since the fight, both Alvarez and Poirier have agreed to fight each other again. However, that may not happen anytime soon due to Poirier suffering from a concussion.
According to MMA Fighting, due to the concussion, Poirier will not be able to fight until at least November.
“We are taking the concussion symptoms very seriously,” Poirier’s manager Robert Roveta said.
