Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has been away from the sport for over three years now. The fighter was set to make his return to mixed martial arts in a middleweight title fight, but things have since changed.
Georges St-Pierre was initially set to take a shot at the middleweight title in a bout with reigning champion Michael “The Count” Bisping. With “Rush” having no experience in the middleweight division, the division’s top contenders have grown a little irked.
Furthermore, Georges St-Pierre is looking for a date later in the year, while “The Count” wants a date in July. As a result, UFC President Dana White has cancelled the bout and pinned Michael Bisping against middleweight No. 1 contender Yoel Romero.
MMA journalist Mike Johnston recently sat down with Georges St-Pierre to see how the fighter has taken the news. “Just sat down with Georges St-Pierre. He says it’s ‘sad’ and still processing what Dana White said about his fight with @Bisping being off.”
