Now riding a three fight win streak, having just scored a victory over Angela Hill, Jessica Andrade is taking a shot at the title. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) strawweight is set to face off against division champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Andrade and Jedrzejczyk use to be closer, with Andrade having received a few gifts from the UFC strawweight champion. In a recent media lunch, as reported by MMA Fighting, Andrade explained that she is actually using one of the champion’s gifts in her training.
“She already gave me several gifts. She gave me a glove that I use it to train thinking that I’ll punch her [laughs]. When it’s time to fight, we’re professionals. It’s our jobs and careers. Respect must always exist. It’s not because I’m fighting her that she’s my enemy, that I want to kill her. She’s my opponent and I’ll do my best. I want to win, but there’s respect and friendship.” Andrad said.
The two fighters will fight for the title at UFC 211. The event goes down May 13 inside the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas.
