Retired NBA star Kobe Bryant has reportedly come forward with some advice for mixed martial artists within the Ultimate Fighting Competition (UFC). The retired Los Angeles Lakers NBA all-star believes it may be time for the fighters to unionize.
UFC bantamweight competitor Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith recently took to Twitter to state “Kobe Bryant just told the majority of the UFC fighters that unity between the athletes is essential #prounion.”
NBA star Deron Williams recently appeared on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour. The NBA star revealed that he is interested in participating in Jiu-Jitsu. However, Williams made a comment concerning the lack of a union for UFC fighters.
Williams stated, “It’s just tough on them. You talk about the UFC, it’s not like basketball. We have a players union that’s fighting for us and helping us better our contracts and things like that. These guys are kind of just on their own and it’s whatever (the UFC says) goes. So, it’s a tough situation.”
