Bellator fighter Paul Daley recently reflected on his legendary Strikeforce fight against Nick Diaz.
In April 2011, Daley fought Diaz, who at the time was the Strikeforce welterweight champion, for his title. The two fought in a memorable slugfest that resulted in Diaz winning by TKO.
“I think, for me, the Diaz style is just a hard style to prepare for,” Daley said reflecting on the fight. “People don’t give them enough credit for that. They’re really durable. They can take a hell of a shot. Their cardio is insane, and their punch output is just phenomenal.”
Daley takes nothing away from Diaz’s win, but he also said he underestimated him. At the time, Daley was not taking fighting seriously and was spending a lot of his time partying instead of preparing for the fight.
This Friday, Daley is scheduled to headline Bellator 179 in London. He is scheduled to fight former UFC title challenger Rory MacDonald in his Bellator debut.
