On Saturday, at UFC 211, former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez fought Dustin Poirier.
Alvarez fought Poirier in the final preliminary fight of the evening. The fight did not last long, but the two lightweight contenders made sure it would be memorable.
Poirier rocked Alvarez in the first round and came close to victory. However, Alvarez showed his durability and fought back to survive the round.
In the second round, Alvarez came out much more aggressive and brought the fight to Poirier. However, towards the end of the round, Alvarez landed multiple illegal knees that would finish the fight.
Since the referee did not believe Alvarez knew he was throwing illegal shots, the referee ruled the fight as a no contest.
Even though the fight did not have a winner, Alvarez and Poirier put on one of the best fights of the year.
