The UFC is eyeing the possibility of UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson defending his title against former UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw.
Dillashaw is scheduled to fight UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt for his title at UFC 213 on July 8.
However, Garbrandt is suffering from a back injury and the fight is in jeopardy.
Once news broke of Garbrandt’s injury, Dillashaw began campaigning for a title fight against Johnson.
UFC President Dana White told ESPN if Dillashaw was to fight Johnson, it would take place in August.
Johnson is expected to headline UFC 215. The pay-per-view event has yet to be officially announced but it is expected to take place sometime in August and will take place in Seattle, Washington.
This fight would be Johnson’s attempt at breaking the all-time UFC record for consecutive title defenses. Johnson currently holds the record with 10. He shares this accolade with former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva.
If Garbrandt can't go and UFC makes DJ vs. TJ, White tells me it'd be in August. Not official, but looking at DJ headlining PPV in Seattle.
