Former flyweight title challenger Tim Elliott will fight Ben Nguyen at a UFC Fight Night event in New Zealand on June 10.
Elliott is replacing fellow former title challenger Joseph Benavidez, who announced on Wednesday he is injured and is forced to withdraw from his fight with Nguyen.
Elliott is coming off a “fight of the night” performance in his last outing. He won an exciting decision against Louis Smolka.
Elliott recently returned to the UFC after winning season 24 of The Ultimate Fighter. His prize for winning the competition was a title shot against UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson. Despite losing to the champion, Elliott was one of the toughest challenges to Johnson’s historic title run.
Nguyen is coming off a decision win over Geane Herrera in November. He has two other wins in the UFC, including a submission win over Ryan Benoit.
