The UFC has offered middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi a fight against former UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold.
Ariel Helwani, of MMA Fighting, tweeted Mousasi was offered a fight with Rockhold, but the fight is not official.
Mousasi is currently a free agent and is expected to re-sign with the UFC. An announcement from the UFC or Mousasi about him re-signing is expected to take place sometime soon.
Mousasi is currently on a five-fight win streak in the UFC. He is coming off a TKO win over former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman. Mousasi’s win streak also includes wins over Thales Leites, Thiago Santos, Uriah Hall, and Vitor Belfort.
Rockhold has not fought in almost a year. In his last fight, Rockhold lost his UFC title after getting knocked out by Michael Bisping.
If Mousasi and Rockhold fight, it will have major implications in the middleweight division. On Thursday, UFC President Dana White told ESPN if Bisping cannot compete this summer, the promotion will create an interim middleweight title. White named Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker as potential fighters who could fight for the title.
that’s what was offered, but again like with so much these days, not official. https://t.co/oRCI7bdDU0
