Just over a year ago, UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor didn’t seem confident defeating a boxer in a boxing match.
In Jan. 2016, McGregor talked about a possible fight against boxing legend Floyd “Money” Mayweather during an interview.
“Who knows what the future holds,” McGregor said about a fight against Mayweather. “I’m open to discussion, always. People always say, ‘Well, Floyd would win in a boxing fight, but the MMA guys would win in an MMA fight.’ Well, let’s take out the sports. Let’s take out rules. Who wins if we just fight? Me, that’s it. I don’t care where or what I’ll go into that game no problem. Like I said, I’m open to discussion. Options are a beautiful thing in the fight business.”
Now, the boxing match between McGregor and Mayweather has been made official. McGregor will make his professional boxing debut against Mayweather on Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
