UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes has broken her silence when it comes to her actions at the UFC Summer Kickoff Press Conference back in May.
During the event, Nunes went face-to-face with her upcoming opponent Valentina Shevchenko. When the two squared off, Nunes punched Shevchenko when she got too close to the champion.
On Thursday, Nunes was asked about her altercation with Shevchenko during media day for UFC 213.
“I overreacted,” Nunes said about her actions. “She touched me a little bit and then I overreacted.”
Nunes will defend her title against Shevchenko in the main event of UFC 213 on July 8 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
This will be the second time these two women fight. At UFC 196, in March 2016, Nunes earned a decision victory against Shevchenko.
After her win, Nunes won the UFC title by submitting Miesha Tate. She has since defended her title by knocking out Ronda Rousey.
Shevchenko earned her title shot by winning a decision against Holly Holm and submitting Julianna Pena.
